That Karl Lagerfeld is a master of mise-en-scéne is well-known for all of us. Not least, because of his lavish staged shows in Paris each year which often appear like a dramatic plays and are more then just a fashion show.
By this time, I always wait for his new muse to be named and surprisingly he choose Keira Knightley. (I don't know if this is really surprising?! Maybe not, but I didn't had Keira on the radar since I'm not her biggest fan...til now.)
She plays Coco Chanel in the new short movie "Once upon a time" that screens the opening of Gabrielle's first store in France in 1913.
This is one of the most loveliest movies I have ever seen. It's gorgeous. Keira Knightley looks brilliant as Coco and I think, all other actresses/ models are perfect! Stella Tennent is just great and I adore Lindsey Wixson's dress. Doesn't she look amazing?!

I owe you a post about my trip to the "Schuhtick" exhibition in Bonn which I've already done some weeks ago. But you can still visit the exhibition until March 10th.
Unfortunately, it wasn't allowed to take picture ;-(. Evil me, made some with the iPhone, secretly...! So, I can't show many pictures and the ones I took have a really bad quality. Sorry for that.
But I still wanted to give you some information and maybe the one or the other of you who lives nearby has a chance to visit. It's really worth it! More than 400 pieces from all over the world and from all epochs are shown.
A catwalk decorates the entrance of the exhibition where you can try walking in more than 100 different shoes from no heel to highest heels. Everything the heart desires! Some shoes are presented in huge shoe boxes to walk in and some (really fragile pieces) are shown in cabinets.
Starting with the (maybe) very first shoes from Ötzi (the man from the ice) which are supposed to be more than 40.000 years old, up to the Middle Ages, further on to Baroque and Rococo periods to the 18th century, the 19th century and last, but not least to our present times....you can see shoes from their very beginning up to now. And it's really fascinating to see that some details of our currents shoes have their origin in very very faraway times. So, I learned that shoes during the Middle Ages had two bars (front and back) under the sole (to avoid the dirt, mostly feces, on the streets) which could be some kind of forerunner to our platform shoes like the Buffalo's in the 90ies.
Moreover, you'll see shoes that showed a certain status and authority (especially in former times). What I also never thought about before is that heels weren't only for women in previous epochs. Above all, they showed the power and influence of certain men.

There's also foot jewelry regarding sensuality and eroticism. Funny little story...in ancient Egypt the prostitutes wore shoes with an imprint under the sole that said something like "Follow me" :-).
Also special shoes like working boots (from firemen) or sport shoes (from Boris Becker when he won Wimbledon) are exhibited.

The last part of the exhibition is dedicated to the art of shoe design and todays greatest (shoe) designers like Manolo Blahnik, YSL, Vivian Westwood, Karl Lagerfeld, Roger Vivier or Salvatore Ferragamo and some more.

After the exhibition I went straight to the museum shop (I looove museum shops) and bought the book "Schuhtick", of course. You can find all information there, too and I think, it's always good to have some reference books in the shelf.

An hour ago I came back from my morning walk with Jonesy (what I really enjoy with all that snow ;-)) detouring to the kiosk, because the February issue from VOGUE Germany is out today AND it includes the DVD of "Diana Vreeland - The eye has to travel".

Today I have a TV tip for you. I just read about on Arte.de.
It's a threepart documentary report about Fashion, of course!
Part 1 and 2 will be broadcasted on Saturday, October 20th, 10:00 PM and 11:00 PM and part 3 on October 27th, 10:00 PM.
The documentary will show how history, politics and cultural life influenced the fashion world. How is fashion influencing our society?
Part 1: Golden 80ies
The first part focuses on Thierry Mugler, Claude Montana, Jean-Paul Gaultier and Azzedine Alaïa and how their creative work influenced and contributed to the society in the 80ies.
Part 2: Anti Fashion
Anti-Fashion meant creating something different. The second part of Fashion shines a light on the upcoming designers of the 90ies like Ann Demeulemeester, Martin Margiela and Dries Van Noten. These Belgian newcomers challenged everything the fashion world has know before....in Paris more and more creative people followed the new approach of minimalism. At the same time, the "Grunge" era was born in the US. Kate Moss became the new model icon and many many more interesting things happened....
Part 3: Go Global
The third and last partwill show how the creative world of fashion developed to a hard business world, how big luxury good companies were found and how the operate world wide.

I came back from a litte sunday trip right on time for Diane von Furstenberg's runway show Spring 2013 on Live Runway. You can watch the full show again here.
"With the polish of a princess and the heart of a gypsy, she is an aristocratic dreamer..."
That totally describes the whole spring collection for me. All the looks are strong, colorful, but straight and feminin at the same time. Wonderful dresses, feminin overalls or even "dress and pants combinations" (which is not really a favorite of mine) could be seen on the runway.
The dresses, blouses, shirts and overalls appear overall through the blaze of the colors, I think. Combinations like grey and neon yellow, red and blue, turquoise and brown, red and yellow or neon yellow and neon pink are really a statement and very present in this collection. Besides those ensembles you can also find cute white dresses and shirt/ pant combinations or black&white print dresses and overalls which are casual, chic and very ladylike.
I totally love this collection and I try to save some money and maybe buy one of this fabulous dresses for spring!

What I really like about DvF collections is the down-to-earthness, glamour, strong, but playful attitude the looks create...I imagine Diane von Furstenberg totally like this! I love that!

Who doesn't know him? I guess, we all have heard, read or even seen him! He was a streetstyle photographer even before we had an idea about blogs. Bill Cunningham is a New York Times photographer and fills his column "On the street" with all the amazing outfits and styles he discovers during his days on the road.
Anna Wintour said: "We all get dressed for Bill"! Watching the movie, this is obviously so true. All the pretty birds flying through NYC, waiting for Bill. Sure, I don't know if its really that way, but every time he shoots one of the gorgeous girls, he seems to make their day!
"Bill Cunningham New York" gives an interesting view in his work and let you see New York and its ladies through his eyes. What makes it even more amazing. The NYC pictures, the interesting facts and details of fashion history given by him and other great New Yorkers highlight the movie, too. Knowing nearly nothing of his private life before, I got even a little glimpse of his very personal life. I love this documentation and it's surely one of the movie you can watch over and over again. This movie makes Bill Cunningham still more to one of the most impressive, exciting and cutest people I can think of.

Being really tired yesterday evening and not in the mood for reading anything, I just turned on the TV and discovered that The Golden Girls are still on - maybe in the 1000. rerun, but still really funny in my opinion ;-)
Being not only funny, but also quite far-sighted when it comes to their clothing! Sure, the patterns and styling is not the latest, but they knew what colors to wear...
As some of you have surely read...some month already ago Mauri from Mau-Fashion started the charity "Bloggers against AIDS". Nearly fifty bloggers followed him and auctioned something like a dress, a bag, books etc. you could bid on....and all the money from the auctions was spend to the Deutsche AIDS Hilfe.
I think this charity was a great idea and shows how much people can and are willing to give to help others! We need more of these ideas and engagement to help at least a little!
Loving this idea and wanting to support this charity with a donation, I bid at "i heart Berlin" for a shirt and the book "Berlin Fashion Now" which was on my wishlist anyway (post will follow soon)! Buying such great things and doing something good at the same time is a really nice idea - not new, but to be continued this year!
I love the shirt and the book is great too and at least, I could give a tiny little bit!
For all who couldn't be at the Berlin Fashion Week this time - like me :-( - Arte TV showed yesterday the Michalsky Style Nite Berlin. The event is a traditional part of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Berlin which was performed by Michael Michalsky this time. The style nite is not only a fashion show, but is also a music, art and life style event.
Next to Frida Gold and Marina and the Diamonds as music acts, you could admire Andrej Pejic on the runway!

Last week I already saw a few minutes from this meeting of the giants! Lada Gaga meets Gaultier!
Now SIXX is showing the whole interview which lasted more than one hour. Jean Paul Gaultier will welcome Lady Gaga in his Parisian company headquarter. He designed a little room just for this interview with one of the biggest fashion AND music icons of the world. They meet never before! The more it surprises how honestly they talk about the Lady's past. The highlight is definitely, that Gaultier shows Lady Gaga his studio! Only a very few people are allowed to see it. And you'll see her speechless for at least some seconds...because of a Gaultier design, of course!
This is a very lovely interview, as far as I've seen it. And I'm really curious about the whole interview this evening. If you wanna take a look before:
Appropriate to all the discussions about a models age, the staging of childrens bodies on pics and the forbidden ad from Dakota Fanning for Marc Jacobs (as reported on Fashionista e.g.), the movie "I'm NOT a f**king princess" was released some weeks ago. Some of you may have seen it already.
I havn't so far, but saw a tv report during the weekend about directress Eva Ionesco and the her story.
I'm NOT a f**king princess is about a mother-daughter-relationship and the staging of young girls as woman (or worse: as object of lust). Eva Ionesco shows how her own mother, who lived with her in Paris, used her as "muse" for her photographs which was fun for Eva at first, but soon became a nightmare for the little girl. Her mother forced her to dress and pose more revealingly until little Eva (Violetta in the movie) starts to rebel against her mother. Trying to create a better life for daughter and herself, photographer Hannah (Irina Ionesco in origin) uses her instead for more wealth and popularity without the thoughtfulness of Violettas feeling and life.
I guess, this movie won't start many discussions. Quite different from the current ads from Dakota Fanning, Hailey Steinfeld and tbc....I mean, don't get me wrong...I totally agree that children shouldn't be staged like women in sexy poses, too short skirts...blablabla...but where's the limit?! When is it ok and when too much?
Why is Marc Jacobs' ad banned and why are pictures from Lottie Moss (from Fashionista) or Hailey Steinfeld not?! What is age appropriate? Lottie Moss looks much older than 13 on the pictures and beautiful. And to be honest, I didn't think that the Dakota Fanning ad was kind of wrong before it was forbidden in UK. Honestly....I mean, she wears a dress and you don't see too much...! But anyway, clearly, this is to protect children and therefore a good sign. Let's hope that the movie and the ban of the Marc Jacobs ad will support that photographers and designers deliberate before doing the next campaign.
Accidentally, I saw a portrait of Otto Dix, a well-known painter...especially in the area where I come from ;-). He was born in 1891 in the same town I was born in 1981 (funny ;-)) - in Gera (for sure, nearly nobody knows this little town) which is "Otto-Dix town", too.
Not only because of the same last name, but first of all he was a great painter who I really like, I don't want to keep back the video from ARTE about Otto Dix.

What I like most about him is his sense about reality. He always found something beautiful in the most ugliest things and he always thought that you need to show the people how life really is. That's what he did! Sometimes in a cruel, but fantastic way. That's what fascinates me totally. You know when you think: Uhhh, this looks really, really nasty, but somehow you have to see what's going on in that picture. And than, it's just life which was cruel during his time, of course.
He painted a lot during the first and second world war. Showed the cruelties, wounded people or life with all its sceneries in Berlin...but the Nazi's declared his work as "degenerated art" and so he stepped back, went to the country, although he loved the city life and started to paint landscapes mostly. Sounds boring and unfortuntely the picture are not half as good as the "real" ones, I think - but still well worth seeing.
I saw two of his picture in the MoMa in New York City what made me somehow proud that I have the same last name...sounds stupid! Is stupid somehow! Anyway ;-).
And of course, there's an exhibition in Gera which is fantastic. If you ever have the chance...go there. And since the chance are small that you'll ever be in Gera ;-) try the MoMa in NYC or the Musée des Beaux Arts in Montreal. I've never been there, but heard it's brilliant too. Few weeks ago I saw the trailer for Michelle William's new movie "My week with Marilyn" and I can't wait till it will be in the theatres in Germany.
As you already know, I'm a big fan of Michelle Williams and I totally think that she'll be the perfect to play Marilyn Monroe...and she already showed in October Vogue US how Marilyn-like she can be. To be honest, I think, Michelle doesn't only appear outwardly like her. It seems that she has also the elegance, the vulnerability and the sensitivity of a Marilyn Monroe - at least it seems like that!
So, see for yourself!
Release date for US is November 23rd 2011. Other release dates can be seen here. Unfortunately, it's not announced yet when it will be in German theatres ;-(. Hopefully soon!
I think, she is one of the most convertible women I have ever seen. Sometimes she looks so beautiful, sometimes fragile, girly or very strong and elegant and sometimes a bit wasted...always depends on the role she is playing. That's amazing!
During the last years, I didn't really paid attention to her - to be honest. But I really like her playing in "The Social Network" and now I was really surprised to see her on US Vogue cover for November.
Her photos for Vogue US are incredible. She looks so strong and though. Maybe a bit too hard, but at the same time so elegant and feminine that you just don't know what to think at first sight. Amazing! See more pics here on Vogue.com.
Moreover, I'm so excited and looking forward to January when David Fincher's movie "The girl with the dragon tattoo" will be in the theatres. I loved the book and unfortunately I missed the first swedish movie version, so I will definitely be in the theatre when Rooney fights as Lizbeth Salander. Check out the trailer here:
